My name is Lukas Kornelius, I am 29 years old, live in Aarhus and study at the Jutland Art Academy, where I started in 2022. I work primarily with painting and drawing but like to experiment across media with everything from screen printing, text, sound art and performances.

When I paint and draw I work intuitively and quickly, and am interested in the power that can be found in the simple motif painted and drawn on a rough material. I've always been more interested in other artists' sketches rather than the finished image - something that is also reflected in the clear sketchiness of my paintings. At the same time, working graphically with painting also appeals to me, and I get inspiration from logos, comics, record covers, etc.

With my paintings, I seek to create my own distinct universe that can contain the grotesque, the exaggerated, the pathetic, the absurd, the ridiculous and, above all, the vulnerable. Currently, this manifests itself in a series of monster/beast motifs, a series of paintings and prints that are based on my love and fascination with the mythical.

I want there to be a mystery surrounding my universe, the fascination should speak for itself, without necessarily explaining my personal relationship to my motifs. Therefore, I have chosen to keep the works open to interpretation so that the viewer can dive into my universe on their own terms.
